I grew up in south Winnipeg and spent much of my time exploring the bushes and banks of the Seine River near my home. I have always loved the outdoors and it has become my passion (obsession?) in the last nine or ten years.
I worked as a teacher for 14 years, but have many other interests, including photography, writing, and making up-cycled items and refinishing old furniture . I am an avid traveller and have been to 90 countries in six different continents. I played rugby for 15 years, am an avid runner and I love hiking, cycling, camping, and fast-packing.
After returning to Winnipeg from a year of travels in 2016, I decided that I wasn’t doing my own city the justice it deserved and challenged myself to visit all the 1296 Winnipeg parks and open spaces either on foot or by bike. Button below will link you to the City of Winnipeg’s interactive online map.
I completed this task in just under a year in March of 2018. This gained some media attention (much to my chagrin!) – buttons below for those of you interested in perusing 🙂
In 2020, I decided to reduce my teaching hours in order to pursue my other passions, and the idea for ‘Peg City Parks was born!
*update as of September 2022 – Having resigned from my teaching position, I am now living a nomadic lifestyle with my partner, Kyle. ‘Peg City Parks will continue to operate, and hunts can still be purchased (sans guided tours for now). See you next summer in one of our Winnipeg parks!
